PDMU Holds Workshop for LGUs on Detailed Engineering Design for Road and Drainage Projects

A total of 24 LGUs joined the said workshop with the resource persons from the Department of Public Works and Highways- Central Office. Engrs. Samuel A. Bertillo and Paulo Carlo Salvador imparted their wisdom and experiences on Detailed Engineering Design to the participants.

One of the bottlenecks in the procurement process is the delay in the implementation of the Detailed Engineering Design (DED). This causes major delay in the procurement since the implementation will not proceed unless the DED is completed. To address this concern, the Department of the Interior and Local Government Regional Office XII, together with Project Development and Management Unit (PDMU), spearheaded the seminar workshop on Detailed Engineering Design for road and drainage projects at The Farm @ Carpenter Hill in Koronadal City last June 17-21, 2019.

In the course of their presentation, they did pre-test to assess the knowledge of the participants in terms of DED Preparation. After which, a lively discussion took place on the basic ideas that the participants need to familiarize with. Also, there was a review session to ‘refresh’ them with the key terms needed for the workshop. The resource speakers had a hands-on activity using the software “Autocad Civil 3D”.

Every participant was able to follow the simple steps and no one was left behind during workshop since they were able to proceed with the design of a road. All participants were eager to learn some new techniques and approaches on DED and they gave full attention to the speakers.

In behalf of the Regional Director, Assistant Regional Director Lailyn A. Ortiz, CESO V in her opening remarks said, “We would like to increase the number of technical staff who will be efficient users of the Autocad Civil 3D.” ARD Lai thanked the participants from the local government units and she encouraged them to actively take part in all the discussions since this will highly benefit them. Moreover, she emphasized that LGUs must be pro-active especially in the   preparation of DEDs which must be done ahead of time to ensure that transactions will be much faster. She also expressed hope that the week-long seminar workshop will really prove to be useful and meaningful for all the participants.

Engr. Samuel Bertillo later revealed that, “constant practice is the key for fast and effective use of Autocad Civil 3D.”
