Fostering Growth Mindsets: Sarangani Junior Officials’ Institutional Visit to DILG XII

As part of the 2024 Linggo ng Kabataan Celebration, the Provincial Governor’s Office of Sarangani, through its Provincial Youth Development Division, organized an Institutional Visit to the Department of the Interior and Local Government XII on August 29, 2024.

The visit aimed to immerse the Sarangani Junior Officials (SJO) in the workings of key government agencies, offering them a hands-on learning experience. The young leaders gained insight into how the DILG operates to foster stronger communities and promote peace across the SOCCSKSARGEN region.

In her welcome message, LGMED Chief Musarapha A. Alim, MPA, emphasized that the visit was more than just an educational opportunity—it was a chance to witness the inner workings of good governance. “We recognize the power of youth, and we are thrilled to see such a vibrant group of future leaders actively engaging in governance and peacebuilding,” she said.

LGOO V/Chief of Staff Jon Leo J. Licayan, CPA, followed with an overview of DILG’s strategic programs, highlighting its mandate and the department's critical role in empowering Local Government Units (LGUs) to deliver effective governance and sustaining peaceful, safe, progressive, resilient, and inclusive communities.

Regional Director Atty. Rochelle D. Mahinay-Sero, CESE, also graced the event and shared an inspirational message grounded in Carol S. Dweck’s book, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success. RD Mahinay-Sero discussed the importance of cultivating a growth mindset, noting that people who believe their abilities can develop are more likely to achieve success than those with a fixed mindset. She encouraged the young officials to adopt this mindset as they strive to become transformative leaders.

Mr. John Oliver M. Tablazon, Provincial Youth Development Officer Designate of Sarangani, expressed his gratitude to DILG XII for its warm reception, presenting a token of appreciation to the department for providing such an enriching opportunity for the SJO.

Following the program, the Junior Officials were given a tour of DILG XII’s key divisions: the Local Government Monitoring and Evaluation Division (LGMED), Local Government Capacity Development Division (LGCDD), Finance and Administrative Division (FAD), and the Project Development and Monitoring Unit (PDMU). The dynamic personnel of these divisions provided insights into their respective roles and responsibilities within the organization.

This visit reflects the department’s commitment to not only empowering local government units but also investing in the next generation of leaders. The knowledge and experience gained by the Sarangani Junior Officials mark the beginning of their journey towards making a lasting impact as future leaders of the country.
