EMPOWERING WOMEN FOR A BETTER TOMORROW: DEPED’S WOMEN'S MONTH CHAMPIONS EMPOWERMENT ACROSS ALL SECTORS

In celebration of National Women’s Month, the Department of Education (DepEd) Region XII organized a special program highlighting the vital role of women in various sectors. With the theme "Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor: Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas," the event aimed to promote gender equality and recognize the contributions of women in education, leadership, and community development. The vision seeks to ensure that all women, particularly those from underserved communities and marginalized sectors, reap the benefits of gender equality in their daily lives.

One of the program’s key moments was the lecture discussion from Local Government Operations Officer (LGOO) V. Cristy. Jane A. Buenaflor, Regional GAD Focal Person, who was invited as a resource speaker on behalf of Atty. Rochelle D. Mahinay-Sero, CESE, DILG XII Regional Director/Regional GAD Committee (RGADC) XII Chairperson, to discuss the evolving role of women in society, especially those in underrepresented communities.

Addressing an audience of educators and non-teaching personnel of DepEd XII, Ms. Buenaflor emphasized the importance of empowering women across all fields—from education, governance, and business to technology— to the underserved or marginalized.

"Women are the backbone of progress; we have long been at the forefront. When we uplift women in all sectors, we pave the way for a more sustainable future, ensuring a stronger and more inclusive nation for the next generation. A true ‘Bagong Pilipina’ is fearless, empowered, and ready to lead.” She stated. The GAD learning session also highlighted success stories of Filipinas breaking barriers, as well as the need for continuous advocacy and policy support to ensure equal opportunities for all.

DepEd XII officials and personnel reaffirmed their commitment to gender-responsive education and leadership programs, emphasizing the need for continuous support for courses that empower young girls and women to ensure they have equal opportunities to succeed in all fields.

As the event concluded, attendees left with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to supporting gender equality and women’s empowerment. The celebration served as a powerful reminder that when women rise, the entire nation progresses.
