DILG showcases potable water supply projects in mall exhibit

In celebration of the World Water Day (WWD) 2017, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and its partner agencies showcase the potable water supply projects and other wastewater facilities to the mall-goers during the photo exhibit at the Ground Floor Market Market Mall, Taguig City.

DILG Secretary Ismael D. Sueno said the mall exhibit jumpstarts the weeklong celebration of the 2017 WWD from March 15 to 22 with the theme “Water and Wastewater”. The event run from March 15 to 17 during mall hours.

“The photo exhibit is one of the DILG’s ways of showing our support to the United Nations and the Philippine government in advocating for sustainable management of freshwater resources,” Sueno said.

During the three-day exhibit, the Department showcased photographs of some completed potable water supply projects which have already benefited the children in rural areas.

Information, Education, Communication (IEC) materials like brochures and leaflets on locally-funded DILG potable water supply projects were also distributed to the mall-goers.

The DILG is one of the major agencies involved in the water sector with the implementation of the national programs like Sagana at Ligtas ng Tubig sa Lahat (SALINTUBIG), Bottom-up Budgeting (BuB)-Provision of Potable Water Supply, and Pro-Water, a Spanish-funded program under the iWaSH Governance.

“With thousands of potable water supply projects being administered by DILG every year, the World Water Day celebration is the best time to let the people understand, appreciate, and act towards taking better care of freshwater resources,” Sueno added.

The DILG Secretary also mentioned that the Department will also host a book launching event as part of the WWD 2017 celebration. They will also participate in the upcoming Water Craze (Kilos-kilos Para sa Tubig) and the Pasig River Ferry Tour.

March 22 has been designated by the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) as the international day to celebrate freshwater.
