DILG DOSE SUPPORTS REGIONAL PRESS LAUNCH OF THE POPULATION CENSUS – COMMUNITY BASED MONITORING SYSTEM (POPCEN-CBMS)

In a significant step towards improving data collection and community planning, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) XII recently held a regional press launch for the 2024 Population Census and Community-Based Monitoring System (POPCEN-CBMS) on July 15, 2024.

This initiative, held at Avior Hotel, General Santos City, saw the presence of key stakeholders, community leaders, national line agencies, local government officials, and media partners. The launch highlighted the importance of the census and monitoring system in gathering vital socio-economic data to an informed policy-making and development programs. Delegated representatives of the DILG XII Regional Director Atty. Rochelle D. Mahinay-Sero, CESE were LGOO V Cristy Jane A. Buenaflor and LGOO II Shylack C. Limao.

"The CBMS Survey is a game-changer for our region. It empowers communities to participate actively in data collection, ensuring that the information we gather is not just numbers but a true reflection of the lives and needs of our people. By employing a community-based approach, the survey seeks to engage local communities directly in the data collection process, ensuring that the information gathered is both accurate and reflective of the unique circumstances of each area” said Atty. Partner National Line Agencies and Local leaders, including Provincial Governors and City/Municipal Mayors expressed their support for the initiative, recognizing its potential to address local issues more effectively. "With the data from the CBMS Survey, we can better understand our community's needs and allocate resources more efficiently," noted Hon. Atty. Eliordo U. Ogena, Mayor of Koronadal City.

The successful launch of the POPCEN-CBMS Survey marks the beginning of a comprehensive data collection phase, set to cover all barangays in the region over the coming months. Authorities encourage all residents to participate actively, emphasizing that the accuracy and success of the survey depend on the community's cooperation.
