Newly Elected Officials/Barangay Newly Elected Officials (NEO/BNEO) Program
The Newly Elected Officials (NEO) Program is a continuing capacity development program of the DILG designed and implemented through the Local Government Academy. It aims to prepare newly-elected officials of the local government in taking up their tasks and responsibilities as political leaders and area development managers thus to translate their vision and agenda for their LGUs into a feasible plan making their LGUs a globally and regionally competitive institutions. The NEO is designed as term-based learning process. In addition, LGA developed an online platform via a Webinar series. The NEO Webinar is a time-efficient, cost-effective method of training which closes the gap on access to capacity development. It widens the reach and coverage to as many local governments as possible nationwide.
This 2016, a new feature is added in the program thru the NEO Mentoring Program. It involves peer-based and face-to-face sessions for newly-elected local officials. The program aims to provide a space where the newly-elected officials can discuss issues or challenges in local governance with their mentors, who are award-winning local officials who can share their rich experiences with the new set of leaders. Through this, the newly-elected local chief executives become more receptive with new ideas and advice from their fellow leaders.
