DILG XII Joins the 2025 IDADAIT Celebration, Rallies Support for a Drug-Free Workplace and Community

In support of the 2025 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT), the Department of the Interior and Local Government Region XII (DILG XII) spearheaded weeklong initiatives reinforcing its commitment to a drug-free workplace and promoting preventive drug education across communities.

Anchored on this year’s theme, “The evidence is clear: invest in prevention, break the cycle,” the regional office launched a series of advocacy efforts beginning with internal sessions. One key activity was an orientation on the Drug-Free Workplace Program conducted by Ms. Katherine M. Llano, Supervising Administrative Officer,

underscoring the Department’s commitment to ensuring a healthy and safe work environment.

In partnership with PDEA XII, personnel were briefed on the agency’s campaigns, complemented by a visual presentation of confiscated illegal drugs and paraphernalia. This approach strengthened employees’ awareness and vigilance regarding the realities of drug abuse.

During the June 23 Monday Convocation, DILG XII personnel took part in a Pledge of Commitment, signifying unity in sustaining a drug-free and secure workplace.

The celebration culminated on June 26 with a Regional Online Learning Session via Zoom and Facebook Live, drawing over 100 participants from various sectors. The sessions featured two timely topics:

· "Smart Choices, Safe Spaces: Empowering the Youth through Preventive Drug Education and Illicit Trafficking" presented by Ms. Del Jane Nillos, Secretary, National Board of Trustees, PSALM Inc.

· "Prevention Starts at Home: Strengthening Family Bonds Against Drug Abuse – A Public Health Approach" presented by Dr. Ruby Ferda Alcalca, Department of Health – SOCCSKSARGEN Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center.

“This celebration reminds us that drug prevention begins at home,” said ARD Engr. Samuel A. Camaganacan, in his welcome remarks on behalf of RD Atty. Rochelle D. Mahinay-Sero, CESE. He emphasized the need for supportive environments and family-centered strategies.

As he closed the session, LGMED Chief Ian Jon S. Clemente underscored the importance of everyday conversations:

“The conversations we start in our own homes, the time we spend with our families, and the safe spaces we create for our youth can make all the difference.”

He further emphasized that the fight against drugs is not just a government initiative, but a communal and personal responsibility.

ARD Camaganacan concluded that DILG XII will continue strengthening its advocacy—from school-based programs to community-level partnerships—to lead meaningful and sustainable anti-drug initiatives.
