Seventy participants successfully completed the 2-day workshop, "Engineering for Non-Engineers for LPMCs of the Selected LGUs of Region XII,” held at Sarangani Highlands in General Santos City on June 13-14, 2024.
The workshop aimed to equip non-engineer members of the Local Project Monitoring Committee (LPMC) from selected Local Government Units (LGUs) in Region XII with essential engineering knowledge.
Those present included representatives from Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), Secretariat Members and LPMC Chairpersons from 17 LGUs present in the region XII.
The lecture series on day one revolved around major themes such as Project Development Cycle, Basics of Procurement, an Overview of Detailed Engineering Design, Basics of Contract Management and Defects Identification.
These were followed by discussions where the participants and resource persons addressed issues raised concerning different projects such as road concreting water systems implemented in their own respective LGU’s.
On the second day of the workshop, the participants had the opportunity to apply their newfound knowledge through a monitoring activity conducted in Sapu Masla, Malapatan, Sarangani Province. The hands-on experience increased their understanding of engineering principles and their practical application in real-world scenarios.
Later in the afternoon, participants had the chance to present their findings, fostering discussion and knowledge-sharing among peers.
Overall, the workshop provided a valuable opportunity for non-engineer members of LPMCs to enhance their understanding of engineering concepts, enabling them to contribute more effectively to infrastructure projects and community development initiatives within their LGUs.
