“Strengthening Regional Resilience: RDRRMC XII –Disaster Preparedness Committee Approves Four Resolutions”

The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) XII - Disaster Preparedness Committee successfully convened its 3rd Quarter Meeting, where four important resolutions were passed to strengthen the region's disaster preparedness efforts.

 

The meeting was presided over by Engr. Samuel A. Camaganacan, Assistant Regional Director of DILG XII, he represented Atty. Rochelle D. Mahinay-Sero, CESE, the Committee Vice Chairperson. In his opening message, he shared a powerful reminder from former U.S. President John F. Kennedy: "The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining."
 

This quote serves as a timely call to action that disaster preparedness should begin not during crises, but during times of calm and stability.

 

Key highlights of the meeting included Weather Updates presented by PAGASA General Santos Weather Station, providing insights on upcoming weather patterns and potential hazards and Updates from Member Agencies showcasing ongoing initiatives and programs focused on disaster preparedness.

 

OCD XII also shared upcoming RDRRMC activities, including the 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Full-Scale Exercise, to be held at the Prime Regional Government Center. DILG XII will serve as one of the pilot agencies for the drill. This exercise aims to assess the effectiveness of agency evacuation plans and identify areas for improvement in disaster response protocols.

 

In addition, DepEd XII presented DepEd Order No. 22, Series of 2024, which outlines the Revised Guidelines on Class and Work Suspension in Schools during Disasters and Emergencies. The order serves as a framework to ensure both safety and learning continuity for students and staff during emergencies.

 

As a result of these discussions, the committee passed four key resolutions related to Disaster Preparedness.
